Garage Floor Mats
Garages are typically utilitarian spaces, used for the parking of cars or the storage of seasonal outdoor equipment and materials, as well as providing space for workshop-type projects. Because garages are generally viewed as rugged spaces that sustain a lot of wear and tear, little thought is often given to the integrity and quality of the existing flooring. Not only will the floor’s foundation be compromised, it will likely also absorb the odor and color of the spilled liquid, resulting in stains and the hard-to-mask smell of solvents.
By placing garage floor mats in strategic locations, such as the surface that is most frequently exposed to the underbelly of a vehicle or large piece of lawn equipment, you will be able to successfully avoid the absorption of potentially corrosive, odor-causing, or staining materials by your floor. In so doing, you will be maintaining a workspace that is cleaner, and that contains air that is healthier for inhalation.
The most effective garage floor mats or coverings are made of a durable material such as rubber. They should be removable, regardless of size, and easily washed with the help of a garden hose and a soapy solution. By using removable mats, you are facilitating the cleaning of the floor beneath and around the mat space as well, which is a particularly useful feature of this type of flooring, particularly if you use your garage as a wood shop, where sawdust or fine wood shavings frequently accumulate on the floor.
Garage floor mats are not the only type of garage floor protectors available on today’s market. Other options that are also very effective include garage floor tiles, and garage floor paint or sealant. All of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages, and ultimately the most appropriate form of floor covering will be determined by the specific manner in which you most often make use of your garage space.
